Physical Disability Support

Support you direct yourself, including hoist transfers, stoma and catheter care, and getting to work or college.

For adults living with a physical disability or long-term condition, including spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, motor neurone disease, stroke and severe arthritis. You direct the support; our job is to make the day work the way you want it to.

What support may include

  • Moving and handling, including hoist and stand-aid transfers
  • Personal care in your order, at your times
  • Stoma care, catheter care and PEG feeding where delegated by a clinician
  • Getting to work, college, appointments and social plans
  • Physiotherapy programmes set by your therapist
  • Meal preparation to meet specific dietary needs
  • Household tasks you are unable to do yourself
  • Support to use a Direct Payment or Personal Health Budget

You direct the support

Adults living with a physical disability generally know exactly how they want things done, usually better than any agency does. Our job is to provide reliable, competent hands and then stay out of the way of your decisions. The care plan is written to your instructions, in your order, at your times.

Conditions we support

Spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, motor neurone disease, muscular dystrophy, stroke, severe arthritis and other long-term conditions affecting mobility. We also support people through rehabilitation after an accident or an operation, where the help needed drops week by week and the plan has to keep up.

Equipment and delegated tasks

Carers are trained on your specific equipment before their first shift — not a generic course, the hoist and sling in your house. Where a clinical task is delegated to us by a health professional, such as stoma care, catheter care, PEG feeding or a physiotherapy programme, we take that training from the clinician responsible and keep their written sign-off on file.

Support beyond the front door

Care that only covers washing and meals traps people at home. We support people to get to work, to college, to the gym, to the pub and to see friends. If that means a shift starts at seven in the evening rather than nine in the morning, that is the shift we staff.

Direct Payments and Personal Health Budgets

We accept Direct Payments from the local authority and Personal Health Budgets from the NHS, and we invoice in the format your funding requires. If you are arranging support this way for the first time, we can talk you through how other people structure their hours.

Choosing who comes

You can meet carers before they are assigned, and you can ask for someone to be changed without giving a reason. A preference about the gender of your carer is recorded as a requirement, not as something we will try to accommodate.

Why families choose this support

  • You decide how support is given — the plan is written to your instructions
  • Carers trained on your own equipment before their first shift, not a generic course
  • Shifts built around work and social life, not only around the house
  • Direct Payments and Personal Health Budgets accepted and invoiced correctly
